Vinyl Night w DJ Quills and Malik Abdul-RahmaanLocal crate diggers take you on a journey weaving together different genres, rare grooves and dance music classics all on wax. Come out to dance, hang and enjoy the expansive sounds. Malik Abdul-Rahmaan is a music producer and prolific record collector with an expansive music vocabulary spanning global histories and cultures. A recent Western Mass transplant via Brooklyn, Malik, in recent years, has created works for the likes of Ghostface Killah, Pink Siifu, Navy Blue, Yung Morpheus, Cavalier, Oddisee and a slew of others while maintaining a respected status as a veteran and mainstay in the NYC beat scene. In lifetimes past, Malik was a critical player in the burgeoning Japanese hip-hop movement, while living in Tokyo for eight years, and he produced music for several albums that are now considered J-Rap classics. Malik is also the creator of the ethnomusicological series Field Research. His Malaysia installment is available via Paxico Records. When he's not adding to his already expansive jazz record collection, he’s busy crafting new projects for future release. Quills is a radio producer, musician and events organizer from Northampton, MA. He is psyched to be back at the Iron Horse spinning his favorite international funk, hip hop, jazz and disco records. Catch him on the radio every Monday 6-8pm on WMUA 91.1 FM hosting the Age of Exploration and performing live with local psych rockers Carinae.
