  WHAT:SOCIAL FABRIC Rug Project with Jo Hesse WHERE: A.P.E. Gallery 126 Main Street, Northampton, MA. WHEN: June 21 - July 10. Workshops 2:00 and 5:00pm Tuesdays-Saturdays Come To A.P.E. Gallery on Main Street to help work on the SOCIAL FABRIC Rug Project with Jo Hesse. Open workshops will be held between 2:00 and 5:00pm Tuesdays-Saturdays. Learn traditional feltbeating techniques and participate in the festival of feltmaking. Percussionist or other musicians are encouraged to come jam and keep the rhythm while we perform the dance-like work of rugmaking. The SOCIAL FABRIC Rug was designed by the public and made out of wool scraps from Jo's previous felting projects. The approximately 6x9ft. rug can be bid on in a silent auction held at A.P.E. through July 9th. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Northampton Survival Center and the Food Bank of Western Mass. Jo's rugs will also be on exhibit in the gallery for the duration of the project. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Northampton Arts Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, and in part by a grant from Art Angels, a local grant program.
