Silvana Estrada + Aisha Burns

BOMBYX Center for Arts & Equity (130 Pine Street, Florence MA)

Art + Entertainment + Music + Music/Instruments

One of Mexico’s greatest young talents and vocalists, Silvana Estrada is the new voice of a movement of independent female artists who have characterized Latin Alternative music over the past decade. A multi-instrumentalist, Silvana most often plays the Venezuelan cuatro guitar, whose small body and warm sound suits her hands and syncs with the rolling variations of her vocals. Raised singing Mexican son jarocho and baroque choir music, and schooled in jazz, she is an iconoclast who dismisses musical trends for a personal, poetic style that goes straight to the heart of listeners. Her music is tinged with elements of jazz, chamber pop and Mexican folk, Her first release, “Lo Sagrado,” a collaborative album recorded in 2016 with the famed guitarist Charlie Hunter, laced jazzy rhythms with threads of son jarocho, a folk genre from her home state of Veracruz. “Primeras Canciones,” the solo EP that followed, showcased her gift for arresting lyricism backed by collaged synth tones, gentle horns and sparse percussion. She embarked on a sold-out Mexican tour in 2019 and later performed alongside established peers, like Natalia Lafourcade, Mon Laferte and Julieta Venegas. She is making major waves in the media with features from the New York Times, LA Times, Washington Post, NPR, Rolling Stone, and others. Finally making her way across the US in 2022, we are privileged to have her making a stop at Bombyx for this summer’s backyard series.

This is an outdoor show in the Bombyx Backyard. Please bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. If there is bad weather we will move the show inside to the Bombyx Sanctuary (main room).
