Spanish guitarist and composer Pipo Romero (Cádiz, 1983) is one of the most distinctive voices in today’s acoustic music landscape. Known for his innovative Spanish Acoustic Fingerstyle, he blends the rhythmic energy of flamenco, the melodic richness of Iberian and Latin American folk, and a contemporary compositional approach rooted in clarity, lyricism, and emotional depth. His music is instrumental yet deeply narrative, offering a renewed vision of Spanish folklore through the steel-string acoustic guitar.
Raised in Cádiz — a port city shaped by centuries of cultural exchange — Romero grew up surrounded by flamenco, Mediterranean melodies, and Atlantic folk traditions. From the beginning, he understood the guitar as a bridge between cultures: a meeting point where tradition and innovation coexist. This vision continues to define his artistic path.
On stage, Romero transforms the steel-string guitar into a landscape of textures, counterpoint, and rhythmic interplay. His phrasing draws from flamenco and diverse folk idioms, while his compositions balance intricacy with spaciousness, resulting in a sound that feels both rooted and contemporary.
His discography reflects this artistic evolution. Folklórico (2017) introduced his blend of flamenco and Atlantic folk, reaching the Top 10 on the World Music Charts Europe. Ideario (2019) expanded his sonic palette with new arrangements and compositional depth. Ikigai (2022) explored atmospheric, impressionistic landscapes and entered the Transglobal World Music Chart. His latest album, Alborada (2025), inspired by the quiet energy of early morning, marks a new chapter in his creative journey — where Spanish roots, Latin American colors, and contemporary acoustic textures achieve an even more personal and refined balance.
Romero presented Alborada live at WOMEX 2025 in Tampere and at JazzAhead 2026 in Bremen, marking an important milestone in this new artistic phase.
His music has also reached international audiences through film and television. His work on the Netflix series Berlín (prequel to La Casa de Papel) earned him a nomination at the Premios de la Academia de la Música for Best Soundtrack, underscoring his ability to create evocative and emotionally resonant music beyond the concert stage.
Romero has performed at major venues and festivals across Europe, North America, Asia, and Latin America, including Lincoln Center, Joe’s Pub, and the Kennedy Center (USA); Palais Montcalm (Canada); Budapest Jazz Festival (Hungary); Cartagena International Guitar Festival (Colombia); 315 Arts Center in Changwon (South Korea); and the World Music Festival@Taiwan. His concerts are praised for their virtuosity, melodic clarity, and emotional depth, resonating with audiences across folk, jazz, classical, and contemporary acoustic contexts.
