Called "one of America's greatest realist painters," Scott Prior has been honing his craft for over five decades and is currently having a retrospective at the Cahoon Museum. This solo exhibition of paintings and mono prints explores Pioneer Valley and Cape Cod scenes set at dusk, night, and sunrise. Here in the absence of bright sunlight, his scenes shimmer with other sources of illumination: moonlight, fireflies, electric lights glowing from inside of buildings, streetlights, and far-off fireworks. Moonlight turns waves purple-blue, lights up fallen snow, and makes flowers seem to glow in a foggy garden. Little details like footprints in sand, a forgotten ball, or a light shining from a bedroom suggest stories that feel at the same time familiar and entirely new.

Gallery hours: 10 am - 5 pm Tuesday - Saturday, 12 - 5 pm Sunday, Closed Monday
