A staged reading of Duncan Macmillan’s award-winning play, Lungs, will take place on June 10 at 7 pm at the Unitarian Society of Northampton and Florence (220 Main Street, Northampton). It will feature local actors Eliza Fichter and David Keohane. The reading is a benefit for a new organization, Valley to Valley, a project connecting the Pioneer Valley in Western Massachusetts to the Intag River Valley in Ecuador. The reading is sponsored by Valley to Valley, Climate Action Now of Western Massachusetts, Serious Play Ensemble, and the Global Just Transition project of the Institute for Policy Studies.

Lungs is a comedy about climate change and personal responsibility. It involves a young couple who, as they begin considering starting a family, have to examine the scope of their lives together and the world around them. It premiered at the Studio Theater in Washington, DC in 2011 and won the 2013 Best New Play award at the Off West End Awards.

The reading is a benefit for Valley to Valley, which was created last year as a collaboration between Climate Action Now and the Ecuadorian organization HidroAguagrun. This electricity-generating project will sustain livelihoods and help power family farms, craftspeople, and ecotourism while also protecting the biodiverse rainforest of the Intag, which has been the target of mining companies.

Tickets are free, but it's a fundraiser so pay what you can! Suggested donation is $20.
