Lions In Winter: FAT Holiday Show at The Iron Horse on Sunday, December 22 2024
The legendary Valley rock band FAT was formed in 1968 by vocalist and songwriter Peter Newland, guitarists Michael Benson and Jim Kaminski, bassist Guy DeVito and drummer William Benjamin.
In an era when most bands were playing top 40 covers, FAT began writing original music. They signed a recording contract with RCA records in 1969 and in 1970 they recorded and released their debut LP - FAT, produced by Hit Factory legend Ed Germano (a.k.a. Eddie Jason) and engineered by Shelly Yakus(Tom Petty, U2 , The Ramones).
In 1975 the band wrote and recorded the valley's first indie record "FOOTLOOSE" which they released on their own indie label, Dream Merchant Records.
Based on the sales performance of “FOOTLOOSE” Atlantic Records executives Ahmet Ertegun and Jerry Wexler signed FAT to the Atlantic label. After working with producers Mick Ronson (David Bowie, Bob Dylan) and Murray Krugman (Blue Oyster Cult) the band recorded their third album with producer Felix Pappalardi (Cream, Mountain) at Criteria Studios in Miami.
The tracks from the Pappalardi sessions were released on CD in 1992 on Dream Merchant as PAST DUE.
Joining FAT at the Iron Horse for the “Lions in Winter” holiday show will be Valley superstar Mitch Chakour (The Mission Band, Joe Cocker) and guitar hero Cliff Goodwin (Joe Cocker, Robert Palmer).
