Please join the Northampton Center for the Arts, A.P.E. Ltd., and Northampton Open Media at 33 Hawley for an opening reception with refreshments and live music during Arts Night Out on Friday, 7/10 from 5:00-8:00 pm! The Northampton Center for the Arts presents “Ghostlight” by Jay Rathaus. This exhibit explores the symbolism of the theater "ghost light," a single bulb left on an empty stage that represents loneliness, isolation, and hope. Come experience a discussion about how loneliness, often viewed negatively, can heighten self-awareness and appreciation for subtle beauty, connecting it to the experience of the sublime—a mixture of awe and fear that can make solitude feel sacred. In the Split Level Gallery, come see “Slow Processing: Work by Anna Parisi,” curated by Sophie Gill and Adrienne Albro-Fisher as part of A.P.E.’s Emerging Curator Program. Drawing from Japanese alternative heta-uma ("bad-good") art, Parisi weaves unusual and cartoonish visual traditions into her work, deepening her exploration of personal and cultural identity. Through her art, viewers are encouraged to explore themes of discomfort, growth, and ambiguity, gazing into mask-like faces as they search for meaning and confront the unknown. Live music by Mica Farias Gomez Mica Farías Gómez (a.k.a. Mica Far) is an Argentine composer, singer, movement artist, and performance creator whose work reimagines Argentine and Latin American folk traditions through a contemporary, sensorial, and expansive lens. Her NU-FOLK aesthetic blends candombe, chacarera, murga, flamenco, and cumbia with electronic textures, hip-hop, live sampling, and improvisation—creating a unique musical language where ancestral roots and avant-garde experimentation continually feed one another.
