Jana Brike’s artwork combines memories of her childhood in Latvia, folklore, mythology, and her experiences as a woman and mother to create her “poetic visual autobiography.” Many of the images hint at climate change or social upheaval, with flooded vistas and toppled or burning icons of Western society, but the diverse women and children who inhabit these worlds are fearless and empowered. In their strength they suggest possible new ways of living, connected with the earth and living things.
