Purchase Tickets Here STUDIO4 is pleased to welcome the fifth season of HUT--the interdisciplinary performance series co- curated by dancer Jennifer Polins and sound artist Jake Meginsky. HUT showcases three artists in three short sets in an evening of music, words, and movement. HUT's roster of local and internationally recognized contemporary artists including among others Caliph Ali, Steve Baczkowski, Shura Baryshnikov, Chris Corsano, Joy Davis, Paul Flaherty, Jacob Fried, Jenifer Gelineau, Steve Gunn, Sean D. Henry-Smith, Kathleen Hermesdorf, Ben Hersey, K.J. Holmes, Jaamil Olawale Kosoko, Matt Krefting, Jason Lesceleet, Emily Lukasewski, V. Manuscript, Carole Maso, Bill Nace, Samara Lubelski, Cori Olinghouse, Natalia Panzer, Andrea Pensado, Jennifer Nugent, Vic Rawlings, Zach Rowden, Luke Stewart, Mariana Valencia, Laura Warman, and Wendy Woodson.... SHAKIA JOHNSONborn and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, is a graduate of Pioneer Valley's Performing Arts Charter High School in South Hadley, Ma and Dean College in Franklin, Ma. She received her teaching artist certificate from the National Dance Institute in New York in 2009. Johnson has choreographed and directed more than 50 hip hop, modern, African and lyrical works that have been performed at Trenton Educational Dance Institute, Rider University, the Princeton School of Ballet and the Bates Dance Festival. She has performed for numerous hip hop events and has opened for concerts by Fat Joe, Jadakiss, 112, Charlie Baltimore, Kima from "Total" and Omarion. In 2005 she choreographed a hip-hop number for the Celtics/NBA half-time show. She has toured the U.S. and abroad dancing with Face Da Phlave Entertainment and Illstyle and Peace Productions. Johnson is an alumnus of Jacob's Pillow and Bates Dance Festival's Young Dancers Workshop and was selected for BDF's Emerging Choreographer program in 2006. Shakia has been teaching at the Bates Dance Festival for 4 years and spent her last summer teaching the Bates Professional Training Program and created her repertory work called, "Circle of Love". Shakia currently teaches Hip Hop culture and dance technique at Mount Holyoke College, Smith College and Williams College. LINDA GALE AUBRYis a multimedia artist and musician. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates sculpture, painting, video, porcelain, and electronic music. She creates performances and installations that draw on her mastery of many ornamental and decorative techniques, and which support the experience of serenity and self-reflection. Aubry has presented her work across the US and in Sweden, France, UK, Czech Republic, and Canada. Her music explores thresholds of memory and observation, creating compositions and improvisations that dwell in repetition and stillness. In her project Citizens for Confetti she performs on harp, modular synthesizer, piano, and her own handmade porcelain idiophones and chimes. Her diverse work has been supported by the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, and has been presented at Vox Populi Gallery; Wave Farm in Acra, NY; and Fylkingen in Stockholm, Sweden. Aubry studied visual art with with Ree Morton and Boris Putterman at University of the Arts, Philadelphia, and with Philip Wofford at Bennington College; music composition with Louis Calabro at Bennington; piano performance with Vladimir Havsky at Bennington and Dean Earle at Berklee College of Music; and orchestral conducting with Attilio Poto at Boston Conservatory. She holds a BM in Composition from Berklee and an MFA degree in Composition and Painting from Bennington. IZIKHOTANE:Ernest Brute and Object Echo have been collaborating under the name Izikhotane for the past six years. They have focused on creating a unique and experimental cross-pollination of poetry and sound. Their work is guided by Ernest Brute's interest in the Fluxus movement of the 1960's and 1970's, and Object Echo's passion for minimalist composition.
