Momin and Mekonnen use various tech tools to integrate live instruments with electronics, and create an organic blend of those elements. They will discuss the creative process of transforming traditional musical concepts into the digital realm. They will discuss rhythmic parameters such as sub-divisions of traditional patterns (and taals) along with an introduction to Ethiopian melodic scales (kignits). They will highlight working with Ableton Live and various MIDI controllers, live-looping, layering electronic/acoustic sounds, and live-performance strategies. The workshop will get the participants involved in clapping and singing rhythms and melodies. Furthermore, for those instrumentalists, composers and vocalists exploring working with electronics, they will provide creative solutions suited for their personal approach.
