The Eugene Uman Trio plays Northampton Jazz Festival's "Up Jumped Spring" jazz series on April 20, 2021. Featuring Eugene Uman on piano, Steve Cady on bass, and George Robinson on drums. The trio of Eugene Uman (piano), Steve Cady (bass) and George Robinson (drums) came together thanks to the foresight of their common mentor, Scott Mullett, the world-class saxophonist who passed away in January of 2018. Steve and George rehearsed with Scott virtually every Wednesday evening for several years and Eugene would happily join in for the occasional gig. This mutual affection for Scott, his influential repertoire and each other’s musical visions led to the formation of a trio, a steady gig at Machina Arts in Keene, NH, and the recording of Cady’s graduate recital. For this concert they will be introducing newly composed material by Uman and Cady as well as a few recently-worked-out jazz standards.
