Singer-songwriter Erin McKeown has long been known for crafting exquisite narratives and powerful musical rhythms. But did you know they have also been writing theater? Their first musical, Miss You Like Hell, opened Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in 2018, where it was nominated for 5 Drama Desk Awards and The Wall Street Journal named it Best Musical of 2018. Their latest musical OUT HERE will be presented at Chicago’s Court Theatre in the spring of 2026.

Now McKeown brings you a cabaret version of their next musical-in-progress. VIRGINIA is a staged-musical memoir of McKeown’s childhood in the iconic state. Part text, part song, part science lesson, part cinematic recollection, VIRGINIA promises McKeown’s signature writing in a new context. You’re invited to join the process and path of this unique musical work.
