Daniel Kahn & Jake Shulman-Ment PRE-PASSOVER BENEFIT KLEZMER CONCERT FOR BEIT AHAVAH REFORM SYNAGOGUE OF GREATER NORTHAMPTON Pre-Passover Benefit Klezmer Concert sponsored by Beit Ahavah Reform Synagogue of Greater Northampton and Bombyx Center for Arts & Equity with doughnuts and dancing and a reception in the Peacock Room featuring the Humans of Israel art installation and an artist meet-and-greet. You may know Daniel Kahn via his klezmer band, The Painted Bird. This show focuses on more intimate music, performed in Yiddish, German, and English. He’ll be performing with the marvelous violinist, Jake Shulman-Ment, a frequent musical partner. Daniel writes, “Our collaboration focuses on years of playing together in The Painted Bird as well as the material from my recent solo album and our forthcoming duo album. There is a focus on creative translation into and out of Yiddish and a commitment to a radical approach to traditional Jewish song and dance music.” Originally from Detroit, Kahn now lives in Berlin, which suits his artistic polymath tendencies; Kahn is an actor, poet, playwright, musician, and showman. Poignant and political, historical and contemporary, this is an artist you won’t soon forget. Have Kleenex ready and watch Daniel Kahn's Yiddish interpretation of Leonard Cohen’s "Hallelujah" on YouTube – and be ready to be moved!
