Cinema Northampton Presents Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli

 

This summer, Cinema Northampton presents three of Hayao Miyazaki’s and Studio Ghibli’s most loved films; My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, and Kiki’s Delivery Service.

 

The screenings will occur at Forbes Library Lawn, 20 West Street, Northampton, Massachusetts. Everyone is welcome.

 

This summer’s schedule includes:

Friday, July 12 at 9:00 PM - My Neighbor Totoro (parent guide)

Friday, August 9 at 8:30 PM - Spirited Away (parent guide)

Friday, August 30 at 8:00 PM - Kiki’s Delivery Service (parent guide)

 

FAQ

What should I bring?

We encourage you to bring drinks, snacks, bug spray, flashlights, and blankets to these outdoor screenings.

Can I bring a chair?

Chairs are allowed but must not block anyone’s view.

What if it rains?

The rain date for each screening is always one week after – the following Wednesday.

If a screening is postponed due to rain, we will update facebook.com/cinemanorthampton. You do not need an account to view these updates; this website may not be updated regarding postponements.

Are all the films family-friendly?

This website includes links to parent guides for each film. The guides describe content that may be inappropriate for certain ages.

Will you have subtitles on?

Yes.

Why are some films scheduled so late on a weeknight?

The screen cannot be seen during daylight.  Screening times are based on when the sun sets.

Parking for Forbes Library

Forbes Library's parking lot may be full before the movie starts. Nearby parking can be found on Main Street and the Roundhouse Parking Lot, free after 6:00 PM. Parking is also available in the E.J. Gare Parking Garage on Hampton Ave, approximately a 10-minute walk.

About Cinema Northampton

Cinema Northampton began in 2013 to bring free movie screenings to the community.  Northampton Community Television started it and has grown to include the Northampton Arts Council, Forbes Library, and the Northampton Parks and Recreation Department.

We’ve hosted screenings at the Forbes Library lawn, Maines Field, Pulaski Park, Smith College, the Academy of Music Theatre, Ryan Road Elementary School, the Northampton High School auditorium and athletic field, and Look Park.
