Carolyn Dufraine Trio plays the "Up Jumped Spring" virtual jazz series with Carolyn on trombone, Kip Beacco on guitar and Jonathan Talbott on violin. They will be playing in an upbeat gypsy jazz style drawing from the DJango Reinhardt tradition. Carolyn Dufraine graduated Cum Laude from Westfield State University in 2018 with a degree in trombone performance and studied under Tim Atherton. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in trombone performance at UMass, Amherst. She found her passion for music in middle school, listening to great musicians like JJ Johnson, Art Blakey and Dizzy Gillespie. Learning to play trombone in middle and high school sparked joy for her and pushed her performance to the highest level, and even performed at the Newport Jazz Festival with the Massachusetts All State Band.  Currently, Carolyn plays with the Lucky Five, Shokazoba, Closing Time and the Amherst College Jazz Ensemble. She has also been involved with several local theater productions, including the Exit 7 theater company. Her stylistic repertoire ranges from classical music to funk, jazz, rock and pop.
