The Green Room, in partnership with Caledonia Spirits, is proud to announce our first year participating in Bee's Knees Week, an international celebration of one of the Roaring Twenties greatest cocktails, while also bringing awareness to the importance of bee conservation and sustainability around the world. The Bee's Knees is one of the finest examples of bartender ingenuity during the height of American Prohibition: created by famed mixologist Frank Meier, it's deceptively simple use of fresh lemon juice and pure honey helped to mask the taste of the poor-quality "bathtub gin" of the day, making for an iconic drink. It was cocktails like this which bolstered Frank's reputation, and helped him secure a position as Head Bartender of the Ritz Carlton in Paris for several years.All week long, we will be shaking up traditional and reimagined Bee's Knees Cocktails in Frank's honor, utilising Caledonia Spirit's Barr Hill Gin and Old Tom Cat Reserve Gin, both created from distillates of honey, as well as locally-produced raw honey from Northampton's own Red Barn Honey Company.
