Susan Mikula creates her cinematic photos using only available light to capture images on expired Polaroid film, then recreates the rich darks and subtle lights in large prints with a 19th century platinum/palladium process. The artist writes that this process “can work like form in a poem … allow[ing] a specific kind of beauty to emerge; one in which an old camera and an empty hallway produce an image that could have been plucked from your own memory.”
