Advance Base + bobbie + Karima Walker at The Iron Horse on Thursday, December 3 2026
Advance Base is the melancholic soft rock recording project of Chicago, IL singer/songwriter Owen Ashworth (formerly of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone). Using a two-handed arsenal of electric piano, Omnichord, samplers, effect pedals & drum machines, Ashworth builds minimalist, heavy-hearted, & nostalgia-obsessed ballads around his conversational baritone. The warm, electronic sound of Advance Base has been described as "lo-fi," "depressed" & 'weirdly uplifting."
bobbie: is ambient lo fi dream pop music from Western Massachusetts• bobbie uses omnichord electric quitar, vox + loops to create layers / spirals / songs about harmony beauty grief, friendship ancestors and trusting the process.
Following a string of home-recorded songs and EPs bobbie released their first full-length album Rhododendron on the Greenfield MA label Flower Sounds in the fall of 2023. Rhododendron weaves together hook-driven pop with lulling and sparkly omnichord drones and melodies that are atmospheric, hypnotic and stirring.
Karima Walker is an interdisciplinary artist working as a musician, visual artist and educator in Arizona. In her visual arts practice, she uses multiple mediums: performance, installation, sound, sculpture, and craft. She is deeply curious about how meaning and identity is produced through formal narrative tools and corporate and political mythology. This has manifested in research around technological infrastructures like personal devices, data centers, and dams: large yet intimate systems which readily exploit and abstract data, water, and human relations.
Her interest in meaning making processes is also deeply personal. In Translation: The Blanket, she is recreating a weaving that was gifted to her by her grandmother, and which subsequently disappeared. At the core of these disparate projects is a bodily and diasporic tension: the impulse to reconnect and heal what has been exploited and fragmented, and the capacity to build new worlds in response to contemporary atomization.
