Join us for the resurrection of the Valley’s popular jazz piano series! In 1995, the Northampton Center for the Arts asked long-time Connecticut River Valley jazz producer Glenn Siegel to produce a solo piano series, and A World of Piano was born. Taken from the title of a 1962 Phineas Newborn album, the first incarnation of the series featured recitals by Jaki Byard, Stanley Cowell, and Paul Bley. A World of Piano resumed in 2003 and continued until 2013, when the Northampton Center for the Arts lost its former space on South St.
Now firmly re-established at 33 Hawley St, the Northampton Center for the Arts, in partnership with Pioneer Valley Jazz Shares, the non-profit founded by Siegel and Priscilla Page, are resurrecting A World of Piano. On November 17, 18, and 19, the series resumes with performances by pianists Lafayette Gilchrist, Ron Stabinsky and Marilyn Crispell. Come to one concert or all three!
Throughout its history, the A World of Piano has sought to present a wide variety of approaches to the instrument, a veritable world of piano.
