Capoeira Gunga do Vale
Capoeira is a unique movement art form that combines martial arts, music, and dance. It originated in Brazil with the beginnings of slavery in the 16th century. It was a tool of resistance and rebellion, and a way for displaced Africans to maintain ties to their homeland and to each other. Today it is practiced in countries all over the world. It embraces and transcends its roots, having evolved into a holistic art form open to those from all walks of life. Mind and body come together in the movement, soulful singing and calling of the berimbau, engaging one another in the game and somatic dialog of Capoeira within the roda.
